The Commodore’s Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce invites sailors of all ages to enter the Annual Flight of the Lasers. Join us after the race at Newport Harbor Yacht Club for refreshments and presentation of the awards.

The current Racing Rules as adopted by US SAILING and the rules of the Laser class shall apply (except as modified below). Contestants may absolve themselves of a foul by executing a 360 degree turn. The management of the races and acceptance and hearing of protests will be at the sole discretion of the judges. Judges will be observing the race. Anyone wishing to call an infringement of the rules to the judges’ attention may do so immediately after finishing the race. Any number of crew may be carried on a competing laser.

There is no age restriction for this event. Both skipper and crew of the boats competing for youngest Boy and youngest Girl trophies must wear lifejackets at all times. The age of the oldest person in a boat will determine the winner of trophies awarded for youngest boy and youngest girl.

The Warning signal will be at 1:00 p.m. Starting signals will be in accordance with Rule 26, as follows:

Signal Flag Sound Minutes Before Starting Signal
Warning Class Flag 1 Sound 5
Prepatory I Flag 1 Sounds 4
One-Minute I Flag Removed 1 Long Sound 1
Starting Class Flag Removed 1 Sound 0

The laser class flag will be a yellow flag.

Rule 30.1 will be in effect. This rule requires any boat over the line during the minute before her starting signal to return around either end of the starting line to the pre-start side of the line.

The Start/Finish line will be between an orange flag on the Race Committee boat and an inflated orange tetrahedron at the opposite end of the line. The length of the line may be reduced prior to the finish of the first boat.

The course will be: Start, marks 1-U-Z-4, Finish. All marks to Port.
